Help running a city

I am new to DM'ing and want to do a session in a city. Specificly a slightly altered version of Neverwinter. How do you prepare and run a session in a big city. What are some do's and dont's. For context I wanna do a barfight perhaps and a visit to the criminal district.Any help is appreciated.
