How come God was able to interfere before but not now?

Just a little elaboration but he helped free the Jews, punished wicked people for their actions, and was active. Which kind of clashes with free will. During Jim crow laws, the trans Atlantic slave grade, and the genocide happening now in Gaza he's not present. Did he change his ruleset or is there something I'm missing. I know how free will works (I think). We choose what we want to do even though God knows what we're going to choose. Him being all powerful he should help his disciples and people who pray to him. All of these people begged to be saved yet nothing. I just want answers as I want to believe in God but question some of his methods.
