Applying for flexible working

Hi all,

This is my first post, and I can only hope this is the right place for guidance around a 'Flexible working'.

I have been employed at the company since March 2021, and work as a wholesale account manager. Over the last 12 months, our department has restructured slightly allowing us 2/5 days working from home currently.

I have moved over 40 miles away from work, and have a lengthy commute into the office the 3 x days a week, and I want to make a request to full time work to encourage a better work/life balance.
Unfortunately I raised this with my manager to discuss, which didn't go well, he long and short said to me that if I decide to ask him to take this above for me, we run the risk of losing the 2 x days that he 'had to fight for' from upper management. The way he spoke about this request was awful, and had almost manipulated me into not taking this request further.

Our MD is inherently against WFH.

We have a team of 7 x individuals, performing the same role. 2 of the team work from home exclusively, due to 'distance'. One colleague is over 2h30 away, and the other about 40miles away from home, to office, which is slightly further than me, he negotiated this at the start of his contract, last year. 1 colleague works from home full time alternative weeks, due to childcare requirements.

Our job can be performed remotely, as displayed by the 2 x current days. If I make this request to work from home, after my boss had basically said no, do I have a high chance of this being approved? What if the request gets rejected, resulting in 4/7 of us losing our original work from home days?

Any advice and guidance would be helpful, I am M27 and only know this company so not sure of the actual requirements they'd have to follow.
