Recreate rub-off effect on Green Hi Shine Derby Boot

I would like to spice up a Green Hi Shine 10 Eye Steel Toe Capped Derby Boot by applying a rub-off effect like on the original Burgundy Rub-Offs.

Is it even possible to recreate such a finishing after the high shine layer has been applied during production?

I'm including some pictures that I found and inspired me to come up with this idea (those are not my boots).
