As part of the prep for our first road trip with kids, dogs, and luggage, I decided to add crossbars to our GHHM. I looked at Thule and Yakima, but was pretty shocked at the pricing. I'd already purchased a hitch and cargo tray, and still may add a rooftop box, so I didn't want to spend more than I had to. I'd made up my mind to buy the OEM crossbars on sale for about $230, but also saw aftermarket crossbars on Amazon.

Initially I was interested in the higher load rating, but learned that the OEM bars were rated for the highest dynamic load that the roof was rated for- so that was a moot point. I was leaning back toward OEM because I was concerned about trusting a rooftop load to cheap aftermarket bars, but I saw the reviews for Autekcomma and decided to give them a shot and return them if they were crap.

At $89, my expectations were low. I was completely blown away. First, the coating on the bars looks fantastic. It's an even matte black that looks anodized rather than painted. Next, the risers are perfectly machined. Even the insides, underneath the locking panel, have no burs or sharp edges anywhere. Each riser was clearly marked in its own box, and includes a tie-down point.

Installation was a breeze. The only minor annoyance was that the key won't come out of the locks in the unlocked position, so once disassembled the locking panel for each riser had to be re-locked to unlock the next one. The upside is that this will all but guarantee that you'll never forget to lock the panels when you put the crossbars on.

I loosely attached the bars to the risers, pried off the threaed hole covers on the roof rails, and set the risers into place. Once the bolts were through the risers and into the roof, I centered and tightened the crossbars to the risers. Everything fit absolutely perfectly.

This is the most impressed I can remember being by a bargain aftermarket auto accessory. Highly recommend.
