Hyperfocus on a Specific Work
(Sorry if my English is bad, I used Google Translate)
I have level 1 autism, already diagnosed.
It had been a long time since a fictional work had sparked real interest in me to the point of becoming a true fan, knowing the whole story, researching the author, researching their motivations for creating it, better understanding their criticisms, etc.
I don't really know how this hyperfocus thing works, but I've heard it's a kind of above-average desire to know and research something.
And I think I have hyperfocus on a Swedish work.
I've already watched all the films (the originals are 3 and the American ones are 2, for now), researched the author and read his story, read several articles and reviews about the protagonist and the films, done a lot of research to try to understand her better (since she has several layers of detail), and tried to understand what led him to create the character and the story.
Here comes perhaps the most important point: I'm not a book reader, and I usually get lazy about continuing to read. The last book I read completely was about 3 years ago, and even then it was with great difficulty.
But I decided to read the book that inspired the movie (noting that it's by a different author, not the original) and I couldn't get through it much, because the story is pretty "meh". Then I decided to read the author's latest book and, surprisingly, I managed to read 200 pages out of 400-something.
That was within a month in total; I started in mid-December and stopped after reaching the halfway point and realizing the story was incredibly slow and seemed like it would stay that way until the end.
It surprised me that I managed to read all those pages. The other book I read 3 years ago, as I said, had 192 pages in total. It was self-help (I know it's kind of lame, but anyway) and it took me longer to finish it than this one.
Wow, I'm already so "obsessed" with the story and the protagonist that I've even dreamed about her and frequently thought about her, sometimes creating stories about some plot, addressing themes similar to those explored in the original work.
I dare say I've never been so attached to a character or a story like this, not even when I was a child and addicted to superheroes.
Could this be considered hyperfocus?
