Claw slicing logic (D&W spoiler)

In the scene where wolverine cuts sabertooths head off, I realized "wait, he has 3 blades on his hand, but it was a smooth, one slice decapitation". So my question is. Why does wolverine's claws so often only do one clean slice instead of 3.
