Einbürgerung geschafft -Landkreis München
Got my Einbürgerungsurkunde this morning. I am a US citizen who has been living here for 18 years. I was allowed to keep my US citizenship. Here is my timeline:
October 7, 2024 - submitted application electronically with all supporting documents scanned and uploaded. I had already completed the Einbürgerungstest and received my B1 certificate. Received an email acknowledgement from EFAST Bayern immediately, but nothing else until:
July 17, 2025 - received an email (followed up later by regular mail) from my caseworker inviting me to an interview, was asked to bring a bunch of documents, nothing out of the ordinary I don't think.
July 29, 2025 - went to the interview, everything was very straightforward. I was not required to have any of my documents translated, even my Italian birth certificate. Had to sign a few documents, including the one where you have to certify that you don't belong to any extremist organizations. My caseworker told me everything seemed to be in order, all that remained was the background check which would probably take about 5 months.
January 16, 2026 - received an email (followed up by regular mail) from my caseworker inviting to my Einbürgerung on:
January 27, 2026 - went in this morning, provided 3 more pay stubs, signed a couple of documents, turned in my Aufenthaltstitel, got my Einbürgerungsurkunde and that's it, took about ten minutes.
Tomorrow it's off to my Gemeinde to apply for my Ausweis and passport.
Not the speediest process, but not overly long either. Everything went smoothly, and I wish the same for everyone else here.
