I’m looking for some plumbing / appliance insight because this is confusing me and stressing me out.

I have an upstairs washing machine (Whirlpool) and we’re currently experiencing extreme cold / single-digit temperatures. Earlier today, the washer filled and ran normally. About an hour later, it suddenly would not fill with water at all and would stop after the “sense” stage. After waiting and restarting later, it started filling again.

Now that it’s working, I’m noticing the cold rubber water supply hose visibly vibrating and making a banging/thumping noise during the fill cycle. The hose is cold to the touch. There is no leaking.

What confused me further:
	•	When the toilet was flushed earlier, the washer’s cold water hose vibrated/banged at the same time
	•	This has never happened before
	•	All other faucets in the house work normally (hot and cold)

Additional details:
	•	Washer bangs during fill; during spin, there is normal washer movement noise
	•	No visible frozen pipes, no leaks
	•	The washer is currently filling again

I’m trying to understand:
	•	Is this likely water hammer / pressure surge amplified by cold weather?
	•	Could extreme cold make rubber hoses vibrate more?
	•	Does this sound more like a washer inlet valve issue or just plumbing noise?
	•	Is this something that’s safe to use short-term until maintenance can check it?

Washer making loud, banging noise during cycle?
