Why do people see us as whiny, arrogant, entitled etc when MAGA is so much worse?

I had an argument this morning about how we are so arrogant and preachy and that's why he hates liberals. And I know this is a pretty common view, but why? Trump and his followers are way worse, I can't think of anything more arrogant than the approach of "I was right about everything, I am never wrong" and he talks down to and insults everyone but somehow, the general public thinks we are the arrogant and preachy ones?
