Is my fiancé addicted to video games?
To keep a long story short, my fiance is spending all his free time playing video games at the moment. I just helped pay for a new pc for him so I understand he’s definitely excited about things and is contributing to longer gameplay. However, I had a discussion with him last night asking if he could cap his gameplay at a limit so we still can have time to do things together. We’re both in school and work. I spend nights at his on school nights. Literally after our discussion last night, after he gamed for about 2 hours, he set an alarm for 5am to wake up before school to play more games. His room is where he also games so it makes it hard for me to continue sleeping in while he’s doing this. I asked him what he was doing when he woke up at 5 and he said he wanted to game. I asked how long he’d be doing it and he said until he wants to make something to eat. I know that’s means it’s going to be hours. We both have to finish an assignment for class tomorrow this morning, but I know he forgot about having to complete the assignment. And he isn’t going to remember about it until I pull it out to do it within reasonable time before class because I’m going to dedicate part of my morning to doing it. At this point, I’ve expressed how him excessively playing makes me feel, and I try and be so understanding towards his hobby. But it feels like he doesn’t listen to me when I ask him to have some reasonable boundaries with it in our relationship. And especially because now he’s neglecting parts of school because of it. Does anyone have any advice on how to appropriately communicate things to him while remaining level headed, because I feel like this is really starting to bother me and I don’t know how else to explain how this lifestyle is affecting other parts of his life.
