This book was heavy in the best and hardest way.

Broken Heroines isn’t the kind of story you casually read and forget. It stays with you. It makes you uncomfortable, reflective, and emotional—because it speaks about things many people would rather look away from: pain, silence, fear, and the quiet ways women learn to survive.

What struck me the most was how real the characters felt. They weren’t written as victims or as perfect fighters. They were human—conflicted, hopeful, scared, strong, tired, and still trying. I found myself understanding their choices even when they were painful or frustrating, because the book shows how complicated it is to leave, to heal, and to choose yourself.

The writing feels raw and intimate, like reading someone’s journal or listening to a friend finally say the truth out loud. It doesn’t glamorize pain, but it doesn’t turn away from it either. There’s a deep sense of empathy in every page, reminding us that “broken” doesn’t mean weak—it means wounded and still standing.

What made it even more meaningful for me is that this is a Filipino-written book. There’s a quiet familiarity in the emotions, the family dynamics, and the cultural weight carried by the characters. It feels close to home, and that made the story even more powerful.

This book is not light, but it is powerful. It’s for anyone who has ever felt trapped, unheard, or unsure of their own strength. Broken Heroines reminds you that even in the darkest moments, there is still courage, still hope, and still a way forward.
