Friendly reminder: age of majority and age of consent are different
I feel like this is often missed here. I see “well 16 is the age of consent so it’s fine”.
Reminder, age of majority and age of consent are different.
Age of majority - age where you are legally considered an adult with all rights and privileges associated with adulthood.
Age of consent - age where someone can legally consent to sex per local rules.
These ages can be the same, or different.
For example, a common age of consent is 16-17, meaning a 16-17yo can consent to sex. Since they are a minor though this only extends up to the age of majority in the same location (and sometimes 2-3 years older if above age of majority per Romeo-Juliet laws)
This does NOT mean that a 45yo can have sex with a 16yo even if the 16yo is at the age of consent. The 16yo is at the age of consent while the 45yo is far above the age of majority.
Remember, check local laws if reporting a local issue where age of majority or age of consent is in question.
And remember, on the internet the age is always 18+ for nsfw or intimate interactions regardless of local laws. So even if a 16yo is talking to a 19yo, it’s still illegal given that it’s online.
