my minecraft cat disapeared

I'm playing Minecraft on PS4, the latest version (I don't know the number), and I adopted a dog and a cat. I didn't name them because I didn't have any tags. I was heading to a village, and they were both following me. I went into a lake, and a drowned creature started chasing me, so I ran out. When I got out, the cat was right next to me. I walked a little further and reached the village. A while later, I realized the cat was nowhere to be seen, but the dog was with me. I went back to the lake, and it wasn't there either. And the chat didn't show that it had died. Does anyone know what could have happened?
