My wife and lyrica withdrawal
Hey all,
So, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but here goes..
I (34 M) am married to my wife (42 F), who is prescribed lyrica and has been for years. She’s pretty forgetful about getting it refilled and somehow it ends up being one of the only medications that she will run out of completely. Since it’s a controlled substance, obviously there’s a due process when it’s time for a refill, which is not necessarily the issue here (most of the time at least. Her doctor tends to procrastinate sometimes and that can cause issues, too).
Now when she’s out, it’s usually for days at a time. During this time, she says she experiences tons of itching. She’s generally a pretty tired person, but this exhausts her even more. However, the constant itching prevents her from getting a good nights rest a lot of the time & so it almost seems like a bit of a vicious cycle.
My questions are, does anyone have experience with taking lyrica? Is there anyone who’s in similar situation as myself with being in a relationship with someone who takes it? What do y’all do as a person withdrawing and/or the person seeing it transpire & wanting to help?
I’ve read that medical creams both prescribed and over the counter are helpful. Cold rags to calm the nerves also seem to help. But I’m looking for more personal experiences. Even stuff that works for you and/or your person, that may not also work for the general prescribed public.
I will say, to help her in the past, with her consent, I’d set some of her meds aside for when she gets low. Almost as a sort of reminder that they are low and it’s time to start making those calls, scheduling the appointments, etc.
It’s helped her stay on top of doing those things a little more, but I work a LOT now & I can’t always remember to do such a thing like I used to.
Also, side note: this is my first time venturing into a forum for disabilities, so if anything I’d said here is in any way offensive or off putting, please feel free to gently point it out. As I am really just trying to gain more knowledge as a partner who witnesses my person go through pain and feels unable to help, even if it were just a simple suggestion for something she or we can try.
Thanks!
