Is one day in Easter island worth it?

Question — General

I am travelling to Chile in a few months and one friend suggested we could fit a quick stop to Easter island in our itinerary. Go from Santiago, arrive at around 12:30, spend the night and return the next day (plane is around 16:30). I was looking online to see if we can see the highlights in such a short time, and while geographically it looks doable, one thing that bothers me is the guides. Everywhere I looked people stressed that I needed a guide. But how does that work. Do I need to be part of a group tour that has prearranged timings or can we get a guide and then plan our own time?
