Does The Imperium Care About Non Intelligent Xenos?

Xenophobia is undoubtedly a defining feature of the Imperium. With few exceptions, they would exterminate all non-human intelligent life in the galaxy. But what about non-intelligent life?

In the Escher handbook for the Necromunda tabletop game, it talks about how they have a market for selling exotic Xenos as pets. So maybe they get a pass? Granted that is a criminal enterprise so not the most reliable example of what's allowed.

In the rogue trader video game if I remember correctly (I'm waiting for the next batch of DLC's), there is a side quest to discover who left three different 'suspicious' confessions. One of them if you get right you can learn of an alien that was supposedly adorable and was kept as pets at one point. Though it is now extinct, it appears to be more a case of the indulgence of rich nobles and indifference to preserving them. But again, Rogue Traders get to be exempt from many rules, so not the best example.

Of course, I don't have much evidence for the eradication of non-intelligent life, but there is something I think supports it. The fact that the all the calvary I've heard of uses horses. Krieg's Death Calvary, and the Attilan Rough Riders for example. Riding genetically altered horses into battle.

Now this might be me not being knowledgeable so please DO correct me if I'm wrong. But I think it would be easier and more likely (At least in the 40k setting.) to find a horse equivalent alien that fits the criteria for the environment you're looking for and to domesticate them over a couple generations, than it is to genetically alter a somewhat stable new breed of horse. Again could be wrong about that so please do tell me if so. But I do think it leads credence to ALL Xenos are to be purged. But I am still curious if that is the case.

I do also remember that at least when the Emperor was around, he was willing to allow for some intelligent Xenos to stick around if they could be made subservient to humans. There was some reptile species he wanted Fulgrim to subdue, and that's where he got a cursed sword.
