New electric sounds weird

I’m a new player. I got an Epiphone SG standard in light blue for Christmas on a huge discount because the physical store was closing. Just today I got my first amp. MUSICMATE MM-A115 SoundFusion. It’s not the best but I thought it’d do good. When I finally plugged it in to play something the sound it was making was really acoustic, not distorted at all. When I change the config the sound changes but no matter what I do it still seems to be just a louder acoustic guitar muffled depending on the config. I’m worried the amp or guitar are broken. The amp also seems to be making weird noises like an old pair of wired earphones, but only sometimes.
