my car got hit

hello! my car was backed into on camera. both insurance companies say I am 100% not at fault. my car was deemed totaled. i decided to keep it and fix it up. it is still driveable. it’s worth it to me. they offered me very little money to surrender my car. there is no buy back option.

i asked for a settlement from the insurance company, it was denied because I have out of state plates, and I am a non resident. i just left the service 3 months prior, so I lived out of the state. now I got hit, have to pay out of pocket to fix my car, I got nothing from this.

what should I do? it seems unlawful I’m denied any settlement because I am not a state resident, and my car is not registered in that state. it was up to date on registration, I was just from out of state.
