So, a non-Evangeline post for once! Surprise!

Meet Cassiel. Cassiel is a captain in the Exorcist army, a dominion angel by rank. This mean’s he’s actually above most exorcists, but…it’s not quite enough for him. He was betrothed to Evangeline for a time, with Michael believing that Cassiel’s talent and precision as a solider would mean that he could protect his daughter — but that’s not really the case. Cassiel accepted the betrothal because marrying a high seraph like Evangeline would advance his position a little further. Just as well, Evangeline is a beautiful conquest, and he would love to have her as his ultimate prize. Whenever she fell for Vox/Vincent and therefore fell from Heaven, Cassiel (who was already an insensitive, emotionally abusive partner to Evie) became WORSE. Crueller, and much more violent during the exterminations.

Cassiel has ASPD (antisocial personality disorder) or in other words, is a sociopath. He feels very little guilt for his actions and is naturally cruel insofar as it benefits him. He does NOTHING that he does not either enjoy or feel like he can benefit from. He’s violent by nature, but he CAN be good to people he considers “friends” — mainly members of the exorcist army. He admires Adam and respects the whole Earthborn family — even giving Abel grace for his weakness, believing he will “toughen up” as time goes on. This friendship with the Earthborns is self-serving, though he does genuinely look up to Adam. He also admires Michael, but believes that he is softening a bit when he shouldn’t. Sinners DON’T deserve mercy, and redemption is a joke. Maybe because guilt is a foreign emotion to Cass, he finds the idea of redemption to be utter bullshit.

Cass is incredibly cruel specifically towards sinners and hellborn. He does not view them of worthy of any mercy or kindness; they are in Hell and had every chance to improve. Hell is forever and all that. He has routinely killed overlords — and he has a trophy from each one he’s killed. Ever since Evangeline has fallen, his dream trophy has been a brand new television just above his fireplace…

He’s a monster, but a monster who believes himself to be a saint.
