Is America truly reflecting past historical events?

Ive seen plenty of online historians say yes, however never truly expand on why. I've seen the connections to world War two, and I understand that, but a lot of times people from the comments say that terms, dates, etc that I don't think are fully factual with actual evidence to back it up. So, is America truly as screwed as people are saying?
