Ps Vita game cartridge reader does not read games but can I still use a SD card adapter ?

I am planning on buying a secondhand ps vita for a steal price and I plan on jail breaking it. The seller told me that the ps vita cannot read any games but I plan on jail breaking it anyway. Will it read the micro SD ? Do games and MicroSD function differently when inserted ?
