Moving with an extremely anxious senior dog
I have a 10 year old mini Aussie, he was a backyard bred dog so I think that has to do with his crippling anxiety but it seems to be getting worse with age. I have a 6 month old baby and the lack of attention has him extremely on edge, he tries to stay away from my baby and obviously I don’t leave them unsupervised but I do not trust him one bit. He shows very obvious signs that he is uncomfortable around him and I worry as my son grows that there could be an accident between them. On top of that my husband is military so we’ve moved twice in the last 2 years and have another upcoming move in June. He finally was just getting comfortable in our new house and I’m extremely worried about how he will handle this move. He is not currently on any anxiety medication due to having heart problems and is currently in early CHF. His anxiety is so bad he gets so worked up that it causes stomach ulcers that make him MISERABLE. I just want opinions on if this move is just going to drastically going to worsen his quality of life, I don’t want to cause him any more stress or pain but I don’t have the option of not moving him with us and he is so attached to me that leaving him with family is not an option, he only lasts a couple of days away from me before getting physically ill. I have an upcoming vet appointment but is euthanasia something they might bring up? That’s not what I want to do but am trying to prepare myself to hear them tell me it is something to think about. Has anyone gone through this and had a good outcome? Or any advice for other things I could try?
