[TOMT][MOVIE][1990s] Animated film with a little boy and a pirate.

For years now I've been trying to hunt down this animated film I saw as a child. My younger sister rented it a couple times on VHS from a Blockbuster Video around the late 90's or early 2000's.

It had that old school anime style that resembled a Western cartoon at times.

It is not One Piece, this would predate that being introduced to the West. It also was completely different aside from a theme of piracy.

I wasn't The Pagemaster either ... That's actually my favorite film.

The pirate was a classic archetype in a lot of ways. Bushy beared, a talking parrot, kinda portly.

There were visual similarities to a Treasure Island adaptation, but having looked through a list of animated Treasure Islands, I have my doubts.

I recall a very specific line about "18 karat gold". I also have vague memories of a scene where the kid was forced to dig his own grave on a beach, as well as a comedic chase scene between the kid and the pirate on said beach.

I don't think the pirate was the main antagonist as much as a "villain protagonist".
