Do you write (or read) in silence, or do you listen to something?

For reading, it depends. When I'm in my room, I listen to asmr as I read. Sometimes it gets distracting so I look for the quiet triggers. Sometimes I'm able to tune out the noise as I read. I usually don't listen to music while I'm reading cause that is more distracting.

For writing, again, I mainly listen to asmr. It proves to be less distracting from songs since I usually play songs I know the lyrics to, and then I'm just vibing to the songs.

Sometimes, I listen to these five songs on repeat because I feel like it suits my story. Depending on how I feel, I listen to any song as background noise while I write. I rarely write in silence (only when I'm not in my room).

What about you? Do you listen to something (songs, asmr, podcasts etc) while you read/write, or do you prefer silence?
