Headphone Advice for Single Sided Deafness

Headphones - Wireless/Portable

Hoping to get some advice on headphone settings. I'm completely deaf in my right ear. Born that way, so I didn't know anything different.

I've read that the best setting for headphones for single sided deafness is mono audio. I've been playing with the settings and mono makes the music feel flat and souless. I've turned mono off and pushed the balance entirely to my left ear. This sounds better with more depth in the music if that makes sense. But I'm worried if I leave it on stereo and push the balance all the way to the left I'm missing somethings. I read some instruments / vocals are recorded only on the left or right channels, so I might be missing parts of the songs if I'm not using mono but I can't really tell.

Is my understanding of mono and balance sound right? Any recommendations on how to keep depth in the music without losing some of the music?

Headphones I have (if helpful): Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Sony WH-1000XM3

Thanks for reading
