What are some cartoons that you stopped watching because of the fanbase surrounding it?
For me, it’s SpongeBob. I can’t go anywhere SpongeBob related without seeing any of the following:
- People praising the ever loving hell out of Seasons 1-3 acting as if they’re flawless masterpieces with no flaws whatsoever and dismissing everything afterwards as being terrible with no good episodes whatsoever (for the record, the first 3 seasons weren’t completely devoid of any flaws whatsoever).
- People using Stephen Hillenburg as a way to hate on any new SpongeBob media, saying stuff like “Stephen didn’t want this!” or “Nick is disrespecting Hillenburg!” or stuff like that.
- People using calling everything after Season 3 “modern” even though a lot of it is over 10-20 years old.
- People using episodes from 10-15 years ago as proof that “Newer” SpongeBob is bad.
- People taking the show’s continuity way too seriously (like with Patrick’s rock being a turtle shell in the episode “Shell Games”; like, for goodness sake, it’s an episodic cartoon, there’s no continuity!).
- People disrespecting others’ opinions on anything newer SpongeBob.
Like, the Fanbase surrounding SpongeBob (or at least a large portion of it) is so toxic that it’s caused me to stop watching the show completely, because if I watch an episode of it again, even if it’s a classic era episode, it’s only gonna remind me of all those toxic people and why I left the fandom in the first place. Which is sad because there was a point in time where SpongeBob was my all-time favorite cartoon, but now I’ve moved onto other cartoons like Danny Phantom and Kiff.
