I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm the dirtbag the MTIs warned me about.

I know I'm not going to make the next rank, even if I try, and I don't want to try because it's too much effort. I don't have a lot of paperwork (in fact my record has been relatively squeaky clean) but I have JUST enough that it matters to some people. I've never won so much as a quarterly in my entire career. I've never been nominated for a push statement. My current assignment requires a totally different skillset for my job than I've done in other duty stations so I barely know my job at all.

My base is in a popular vacation/retirement destination and my boss has told us "it's easy to rank up here if you try because most people come here and just go on vacation all the time and that's their priority." When he said that I did that whole muppet/side-eye meme thing because that's what I do here. This is my last duty station before I retire. Of course I'm going to go on a shit ton of trips and have fun. When I come back from one I'm already planning my next one. I owe this to my family after all the long shifts and times I've been absent from their lives.

And no I don't want to go to social events or participate in the volunteer thing. I want to leave work on time so I can play video games with my kids and binge Netflix with my spouse.

I feel like the latter half of my career so far has been like tripping up every step as I climb the stairs, if that makes sense. I'm limping to the finish line at this point. I'm so done. I just want to do my job well while I'm at work, but otherwise have fun and take care of myself/my family as a priority and eventually retire with what little dignity I have left as an airman.
