Why I think Mina is getting hate...
I think the hate for Mina is mostly generated from real-life experiences of the public. No matter what, nobody would like to have a person like Mina in their friend circle.
Personally, for me, though Mina exploring is not wrong from the show’s perspective, the way she behaves is the problem. Saying “no, I don’t want to talk with Seungil” and then the very next second going with a twirl when he calls her was very telling. It simply indicated that even though she says she doesn’t want to talk to him, he still craves for her attention. I feel that was the point where more people started hating her and honestly, it’s deserved, tbvh.
She could have handled the situation in a much better way, but her immature/ self-centered self is what’s creating the hate for her. Also, her looking down on other girls and all is generally not appreciated in real life, regardless of what her intentions were.
Such behavior speaks for her character. The public is not someone who will spend time analyzing her behavior in depth. They simply see how a person behaves and comment on that. The same thing happens in real life too. If you come across such a person in real life, you’d also get frustrated and have the same opinion people are expressing now. The only difference is that she’s on a social platform where millions of people are watching her behave like that, so the amount of hate multiplies accordingly.
I’m not justifying hate, but I do agree with people’s opinions on her, as well as with those who analyze her behavior, which is also justified and valid. But speaking purely from a personal point of view, I wouldn’t put so much thought into her behavior because I don’t behave like that in real life, and hence, I don’t like her.
I’ve had such a person in real life who was always trying to downgrade me, wanted all the attention on herself, and used to badmouth anyone who got attention. I’m not telling the whole story because it’s mentally draining. I had to constantly divert my mind just so I wouldn’t crumble under her antics and the main thing is, it wasn’t even about a boy or any relationship.
So even if Mina’s actions can be justified by people who look at her from a broader or more sympathetic perspective, for me, Mina is a bad influence and not someone I would ever associate with.
