AI flagged my essay even though I wrote it myself and I’m lowkey f**ked
I (18F) wrote a historical research essay on the impact that digging up burial sites at residential schools has had on how we view colonialism and colonization for my high school senior English class.
I wrote it ON MY OWN and used AI to put it into the format needed for the essay. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER ⚠️: before turning in my essay I had considered using AI to fill in my essay because I was below the minimum word count by like 300 words and It seemed so easy but I immediately felt terrible so I scrapped it- this did not go in to the essay I turned in whatsoever- ⚠️END DISCLAIMER ⚠️ I figured using AI to only format my essay was okay since it’s the kind of thing I’ve heard my college friends do and I’m not asking anyone/anything to write it for me so it is my own work. WRONG I got flagged for 100% AI and I’m frustrated and flipping my shit. I use my notes app to write all of my essays and then copy them into my Google Docs and turn them in. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN AN ISSUE. I am bad with procrastination and this has helped me because I always have my phone so it’s easy to add things in times were I’m not busy. It’s my first time ever using AI and safe to say I deeply regret it.
My teacher asked me to prove it was in my own words so I shared two early drafts and there was a deleted paragraph that had parts of a prompt ( to add words WHICH I DID NOT USE IN MY FINAL)
And now I have 0 creditably and no way to defend myself.
I guess I’m not really wondering what to do because I have a meeting with the dean seeing as I can’t prove anything and I’m cooking like a turkey on thanksgiving.
NOTE: I talked to my classmates because they could see the fact that I was shitting my pants nervous and they (5 ppl) told me that they use AI to write their essays all the time (including this one) and have never been caught 😀
WHY ME 😫
Thank you.
