TSA baggage inspection - why not re-lock my bag?

Passenger [Question/Post]

Title really says it all.

I travel with a portable tea kettle/water heater. It's basically a thermos with the power cord. No doubt it looks weird on a scan, I completely get why my bag gets searched. Not complaining about that at all.

I've flown three round trip flights this year, six legs. Every flight this year, my bag has been pulled for inspection, and every time my bag has not been re-locked.

I hold no illusions that if someone wants to get into my bag, they can easily do so, locks be damned. But why are the agents not re-locking my bags anymore? Is there some new rule that has been put into place?

Thanks so much for any insight you can give, I really appreciate it.
