A Subtle Culture Lesson From a Golf Round
Played a round this week and had one of those small but interesting culture-gap moments. We were talking about golf courses around the city and I mentioned that Camp Evangelista is a great option if you’re on a budget ₱7,000 for 3 months unlimited play + ₱150 maintenance per round.
For me, that’s fantastic value, especially if you play a lot. The course isn’t fancy, the dirt is hard, and you’ll lose balls, but the math works.
The reaction I got (they just chuckled and not in a good way) made me realize how differently people interpret comments about money and value. Some Filipinos hear “cheap” and think “low status.” I hear “efficient.”
It’s been interesting learning how differently financial practicality is viewed depending on background, culture, and expectations.
