Should Ben have played expand 1 + draw?

I'm only at the end of episode 6, but when I saw Ben could have played expand hand 1+draw 1, and duplicated it, he could have kept so much more in his hand.

Don't know how it will turn out, but that seems stronger than it was referenced.
