Paycheck

So, twice a year we get 3 checks. At my old job, the 3rd check was the one that had no benefits taken out. Why is Walmart taking out benefits 3x a month twice a year? Benefits should only be twice a month. At the end of the year, there is a whole extra payment of benefits taken out. Why? My PL was no help with this.
