Should I start a new job now when I'm going to law school in the fall?
Hi all,
I’ve officially gotten my first A (yay!!!) and am waiting on finaid/scholarship offer. That being said, barring some crazy extenuating circumstances, I’m pretty committed to doing whatever it takes to attend law school this cycle. Pre getting my offer, I had been job hunting in this horrific market for a year-ish (Dec '24 grad) with no luck. I found a job at the end of 2025 and have been going through the long and extensive onboarding process since then (some regulatory hurdles to cross). I’ve “soft” started the role with training but I think the official contract is coming next week. I just don’t know if I should go through with it, only to quit a few months later. It is also an entry level role that requires a lot of investment into me from the company so I feel kind of bad (+ I don’t know how much practical experience I’d manage to get in that short time). Furthermore, I didn’t disclose that I was applying to law school to the employer, in part because I was somewhat doubtful of my ability to get in at all and also because I obviously thought it would be a death sentence for my application. I’m worried this could be c&f issue later down the line.
The thing is, I also think it would be pretty bad for 1L SA jobs to have a 1.5 yr gap on my resume. If I don’t do this job I’d probably just get a service job leading up to law school but obviously that isn’t substantive.
There are so many other small factors that tip the scale in either direction but I don't want to go on for too long.
TLDR: Starting a new job but going to law school in August. Would have a 1.5 yr gap on my resume w/o the job. Don't know if I should go through with it
