Blue-Print Guide 4 A Successful Transition 4 Parolees
Upon ones release from being incarcerated brings with it many uphill challenges. The individual has set goals, has the ambition and determination to succeed in accomplishing those goals but along the way realizes that it's almost un-reachable and throws the towel in!So the loved ones on the side lines are wondering why the individual throwed the towel in and went back out to their destructive previous lifestyle!"He or She must like prison!"Institutionalized,Irresponsible,Selfish,Quitter,Drug Addict,3 free hots and a cot most on the sidelines will say!None of those r the reason or reasons behind the major turnaround and the abrupt change of lifestyle!A parolee only wants what every normal citizen in society has?A job, home and a vehicle. To have a home, you must have a job and to keep the job to pay for the home the individual must have reliable transportation to and from work! Now as the freshly paroled individual is full of positive energy,a go getter attitude and is set on making the right choices to achieve his goals soon realizes that it's gonna b way harder than he or she expected! No one is hiring and the good jobs require a longer distance travel, long hours, grave yard shift hours, etc. So almost immediate there's a constant concern about needing total, reliable transportation. Most need renewals of Driver License, fixing bad or building credit to gain assistance for the transportation. All the while sorting out his housing arrangements! Those that's helping in some sort will tire overtime and it will b evident that the individual is fighting a losing battle. All the while crossing paths with the associates that the person did their illegal activity with and used drugs with. While on the straight and narrow path the person is struggling to stay clean off the substances that once he or she so desperately relied upon.So slowly over time money is being saved to get their own apartment, own vehicle and being able to b totally self dependant on one's self.As time goes by,the parolee is realizing that the workforce is too demanding, the labor is overbearing and it's physically and mentally to much to keep up with. Some if not most suffer from some form of mental illness that requires counseling and or psych meds to keep ones thinking process in check! The individual knows that it would b way easier to hustle on the streets to make ends meet other than the right way.To stand on ones two feet and move forward in life and b successful it requires substantial finances to gain the transportation and housing which one needs to achieve those goals.Staying Clean,Addressing Mental Health challenges, making appointments with parole officer, showing up for work day in and day out, with the drive to get out on their own!The recidivism rate is 20% success and 80% failure! To see a parolee successfully move forward, get off parole, keep their job,get their own apartment and own transportation is a slow time consuming process that requires a great deal of hard work, determination and a mindset of not giving up!These r attainable goals but just arent realistic walking in the parolees shoes! All the while the parolee has more issues that's troubling him that he or she doesn't want to share and is left dealing with those issues all by their lonesome! They have very limited life skills and prison teaches only one way of dealing with ALL the situations that they encounter daily and that is Physical Violence!Any event that's deemed disrespectful calls for retaliation in the form of physical violence. And those with multiple years of incarceration behind them it's even more difficult to refrain from once in society.Society says"Zero Tolerance for Verbal or Physical Violence toward his or her fellow man.So the individual gets cut in line at the gas pump and is now late for work, the neighbor is playing loud music all hours of the nite, someone steals his mountain bike he uses for secondary transportation, his daughters boyfriend is physically abusive towards her,he sees people in stores whispering about his appearance, tattoos, old clothes, etc. And he or she is feeling overly justifiable about the variety of disrespect that is being throwed in his lap to use violence as the way of paying back ones show of disrespect towards him or her ONLY to realize that the life skills he or she so dependantly resorts to is absolutely a "ZERO TOLERANCE" policy then they r left with a fluctuation of a range of mixed emotions to deal with.Anger,Hostility,Resentments,Denial,Sadness,Confusion,Betrayal,Etc.Between the stress of being responsible, staying clean, turning the other cheek, being humble, non prideful, keeping employment, addressing mental health issues, making appointments to see parole officer, staying away from old stomping grounds, saving money, etc just gets to be too overbearing and the individual throws the towel in,quits job, starts using, hanging with the old crowd again only a short while later reoffending or at the least violates parole stipulations and ends back up incarcerated! To help the individual along their needs to b a program for the individual to have desired transportation and housing for an allotted time at a low monthly requirement to assist the parolee in the transitional process
