Working in Schools in the Dayton Area
Hi all!
I’ll be moving to the Dayton area within the year and will be applying to school jobs soon. Looking for input on Dayton area schools and what they might be like to work at.
I’m a school counselor. My experience is in urban city schools (high poverty, homelessness, immigrant populations, high Black and Hispanic student populations). Working in these schools has been stressful and challenging but rewarding and I’ve grown to love working with these students/populations. I know that every city/school is different and I am open to ANY school, even if it’s a wild change of pace.
I’m also a bit worried about the vibe towards LGBTQ and minority educators… My current school is very supportive of LGBTQ and POC staff. I’m queer but don’t talk about it openly at work. I wear pride and “safe space” pins on my lanyard and help run my schools GSA. At the very least I want to work in a school where students can know I’m a safe person and I won’t risk my job letting this be known.
Thanks all for any help or advice ❤️
