German Student Visa – Is IELTS older than 1 year an issue if university confirms language requirement?

Visa

Hi everyone,

I have a doubt regarding IELTS validity for the German student visa and would really appreciate insights from anyone who has gone through this recently.

I took my IELTS on 14 December 2024.

I’ve received an admission offer from Hochschule Fulda (University of Applied Sciences) for MSc Global Software Development. Along with the admission, the university provided an official letter for visa purposes stating that I fulfil the minimum language requirements for the start of studies (“Visumsbeantragung Internationale”).

I’ve seen mixed information online and from VFS saying that for German student visas, IELTS is sometimes expected to be less than 1 year old, even though the official validity is 2 years.

So my questions are:

•	Has anyone successfully applied for a German student visa with IELTS older than 1 year?

•	Does a university-issued language confirmation letter generally suffice, even if IELTS is not very recent?

•	Did VFS or the embassy still insist on a newer IELTS in such cases?
