parking tips for aby's winter bash at aby's rapid city (rapid city 01/31)
hey everyone, figured i'd share a quick heads up for aby's winter bash on 01/31. since aby's is right downtown, parking is limited right next to the venue, and those spots are gonna fill up fast, so getting there early is a good idea.
first things first, if you want the absolute easiest experience, check out prked. it's the app for renting out private driveways or garages, and you can usually find a spot way cheaper than a paid lot right next door to the venue, which lets you skip most of the downtown traffic and still have a short walk.
now for the free options, and this is the key insider tip for a friday night: the downtown parking meters are only enforced until 6:00 pm, monday through friday. since the event starts at 7:00 pm, you're in luck. if you can snag a spot on main street or st joseph street or even 6th, 7th, or 9th streets, you won't have to feed the meter at all. just park after 6:00 pm and you are free and clear for the night.
if street parking is completely full, your best bet is the main city parking ramp (the multi-storey car park). it's designed to be the central hub for downtown parking with over 500 spots, and it's super walkable from there to aby's. the metered parking on the first level of the ramp also stops charging at 6:00 pm on friday.
also, look for the free, unmonitored parking on the periphery blocks just outside of the metered downtown zone. this takes a bit more walking but it's totally free all day and night. just make sure you're not in a leased space or a two-hour zone during the day, as rapid city uses license plate reading cameras to enforce those limits. you don't want a surprise $15 overtime ticket.
hope this helps everyone score a stress-free spot for the bash!
