At what point is the amount he games a problem?
My bf (31m) is a big gamer. He works a 9 to 5, and spends about half his free time with me and half with his online friends on the computer. Hell spend his whole evening with them, gaming, sometimes watching anime or doing quizzes, but he’s been playing this phone game a LOT.
He plays his phone game (Kingshot if that matters) often in idle moments. When we’re chilling, when we’re waiting for food at a restaurant, while he’s online with his friends etc. He opens the game regularly, but often briefly. He’s part of a big alliance on there that take the game seriously, and it seems like he’s making some friends thru it too, they all made a discord.
Frequentlt checking his phone annoys me a bi, but I let it go, but the thing that really bothers me is when the game has an event. Specifically twice a month, they are HOURS long. He has gotten up at 6am, 5am, today 3 IN THE MORNING for these hours long game events that his alliance coordinates together to try to win. He spends his weekend time with me, last night we got back from the movies and he went to bed as early as he could (11:30pm) bc he was getting up at 3am for the game. One time I brought up that it felt like he was giving up too much to his time, he had gotten up at like 4am and didnt even want to play that early but didn't want to let the team down. It’s frustrating bc I often like to sleep with him in his bed (I have my own bedroom) but this time and last time I couldn’t bc he was in voice chat with them in the discord (His pc is in his room).
I try to respect his interest in it despite it just being a dumb phone game bc it’s important to him, but it feels like it’s sucking him in too much. I like video games but don’t play them regularly like he does. Like, is this normal/fine? I’m pretty fed up with how sucked in he is, but idk if I should just let it go bc it’s like a hobby, or if this is actually unhealthy behavior? Like I feel like I can’t fully enjoy the upcoming day with him as fully bc he’ll be tired. It makes me genuinely angry how much he’s into this phone game, but idk if I should get over it bc he is an adult, he pays his bills, and it’s not my place?
I just wish it was less of a priority to him.
