Dog with diarrhea since Wednesday evening (regular poop and then diarrhea)

Looking for advice.

My dog has had diarrhea since Wednesday evening. He had a normal poop and normal food, and then began having diarrhea later that night.

He threw up once in his kennel in middle of night, but none since then.

Thursday morning we fed him his regular food, and I took him out every few hours & gave him a spoonful of pumpkin puree. Each time we went out was diarrhea. Thursday evening I fed him boiled chicken and rice, still diarrhea. No more vomiting and acting mostly normal (obviously less playful with his brother but generally same happy self). Scheduled vet appt.

Friday, took him to the vet. They only do drop offs on Friday, so I didn’t feel like I got a ton of guidance beyond “we don’t think it’s a blockage and he just has an upset stomach.” They tested for giardia (negative), and sent me home with pro-pectalin tablets to administer every 8 hours. Administered first dose at 6pm, fed chicken and rice.

This morning the diarrhea has been more frequent. Had diarrhea in the house (very unlike him), and his diarrhea has gone from being brownish orange splats to being mucus pieces with splotches of blood & undigested rice. He ate chicken this morning (hand fed, not enthusiastically), and took his pro-pectalin dose fine. My vet hasn’t opened yet and I fear they may not (we live in NC and it’s snowing - the world ends when that happens here lol).

Just looking for advice. Keep doing what we’re doing in regard to boiled chicken or withhold food? Is bloody mucus to be expected with GI tract inflammation?
