Women needing permission from husband for anything in ‘Islam’
The way some of these are just absurd, it’s crazy. I’m genuinely convinced these scholars hate women and use their positions to oppress us more.
(P.s Islam is in quotes because it’s actually just scholars opinions and most have no Quranic verse supporting them)
EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION:
A woman cannot work or be employed without her husband’s permission but there’s no verse or Hadith to supporting this.
You can also not continue your education if you didn’t state it in marriage contract and your husband requests you stay at home. They love stating verse (33:33) as reasoning for this ruling but it addresses the prophets wives not all believing women. Another verse they state is (4:34) even tho this one talks of financial responsibility but they stretched it to smth about controlling women.
(I’ve heard so many stories of women, including family members suffering because of these rulings and the fact that they have no Quran verse backing them up but we have to follow it just because some MEN said so)
VOLUNTARY FAST:
According to a Hadith (because it’s always MR. Hadith) and scholars, a woman cannot fast voluntary fast without her husbands permission. why do I need my husbands permission to do something for Allah?
Their reasoning is that fasting stops sexual acts, and it’s a marital right. But the husband doesn’t need the wife’s permission to fast tho, despite sexual acts been a mutual right and not just the husbands.
LEAVING THE HOUSE:
According to scholars even tho there’s no single Hadith or Quranic verse that supports this, a wife shouldn’t go out without husbands permission. And their reasoning is that the prophets wives used to do it, so we must too, because they are the best example of women. If everything specific to the Prophet’s household must be universalized because “they’re our example,” then men must also inherit the Prophet’s exclusive rulings, right?
I understand informing your partner of your whereabouts but needing his permission is just controlling, because what if he says no? You mean I am to stay at home now?
TRAVEL:
A woman needs her husband’s permission to travel and also needs a mahram tagging along. Again I understand informing your partner but why do I need YOUR permission to travel e.g for work heck even personal travels, you don’t need mine, you just have to inform me, so why can’t women also just inform them?
There are 2 Hadith that supports this claim but this Hadith was contextual, during the prophets time they didn’t have secure travel means and only had horses and camels, it was unguarded and very dark, there’s also fear of raiders, kidnapping and tribal conflicts, now it isn’t the same, we have different means of transport, police, street lamps everywhere.
A woman traveling alone on a caravan route isn’t the same as me taking a plane to another country or city.
I can’t seem to take Muslim scholars seriously anymore, the more I do my researchs on rulings, because most if not all are misogynist and limit women so much.
