Why do people recommend using a smooth, cool build plate for printing miniatures?

Explain to me like I’m 5. I’m having a hard time getting answers that I understand. I’ve printed some minis with everything default (Bambu a1) and been happy, but want to invest in pushing my prints to be even better. Why do people say upgrading to a smooth and cool build plate is worth it? What does it actually do?
