AITAH for snapping at my brother for eating my food

i dont even know where to start but i guess ill just spill it. my brother has been living with me for like 6 months now since he needed a fresh start but honestly its been hell. he never cleans up after himself, leaves dishes in the sink for days, and the other night i caught him eating my leftovers from the fridge that i specifically said were mine. i told him like five times already that im trying to save money and not eat out all the time and he just laughs it off like its a joke. ive tried dropping hints, leaving sticky notes, even moving my food to the top shelf but nothing works

then yesterday it got worse. i had a friend over for dinner and my brother just sat there scrolling his phone while i was cooking and then asked if he could grab a bite while im in the middle of serving. i froze for a second because i couldn’t believe he would just do that in front of someone else and i snapped. i said you literally never help or respect anything in this house and he just shrugged and said chill its just food. i wanted to scream. my friend looked so uncomfortable and i felt embarrassed. i dont know if im overreacting or if hes really being an asshole

i feel bad because he is my brother and i want to help him get back on track but at the same time i feel like im just getting used. my parents always told me family comes first but right now it feels like im carrying him and no one else notices. maybe im just stressed and blowing things out of proportion but it’s been eating at me all week

i need to know if im the asshole for snapping or if hes just being a freeloading jerk because i cant tell anymore
