Successfully amending a chapter 13?

TLDR: is it hard or unreasonable to amend a Ch 13 plan before we’ve had our 341 meeting?

We have recently filed a chapter 13 bankruptcy and we had to move pretty quickly due to my husband having a security clearance that was in jeopardy if we did not get the ball moving.

I initially had some questions because our paperwork had us paying 8.75% interest on unsecured debt and our lawyer initially told us that we must pay mortgage and cars inside of the plan.

Fast forward to after we filed, I still couldn’t understand the math even though I had our lawyer explain it to us several times they reassured us that everything was correct and that we must pay interest, and that we must pay our car notes and mortgage through the trustee.

I began to research even more, and I found some local standing orders that say if we are current on our mortgage and cars, then we can choose to pay them outside of the plan directly. We are not behind. So our lawyer is wrong on that.

Second, there has been a recent ruling in my district that says interest is not required on unsecured debt.

So my question- is it unreasonable to ask for an amendment to remove these things? I don’t want to come off as “I know more than you” because I don’t… but I do think our lawyer is not very familiar with this.
