What is Video-EEG and why is it important?
Video-EEG (VEEG) is the gold standard for epilepsy diagnosis and surgical planning.
What is it?
You stay in a monitoring unit (usually 3-7 days) with:
- EEG electrodes on your scalp
- Video camera recording 24/7
- Goal: Capture your actual seizures
Why is it done?
- Confirm diagnosis — Is it really epilepsy or something else (like PNES)?
- Localize the focus — Where exactly do seizures start?
- Pre-surgical evaluation — Essential before any epilepsy surgery
What to expect?
- Medications may be reduced to trigger seizures (under supervision)
- You'll have a button to press when you feel something
- Family can stay with you
- It's boring but crucial!
Where to get it done in India?
Most major epilepsy centers have VEEG facilities. Check our centers list.
