Hey everyone,

I recently bought a house that has a \~15-year-old Dahua analog CCTV system (DVR + 6 cameras) wired entirely with coax (likely RG59/RG6). The system works, but I’m planning to decommission it and move to UniFi Protect.

Running new Ethernet is not feasible, so I’m exploring PoE + Ethernet over coax (EoC) converters.

**PLANNED SETUP**

(1) Existing point-to-point coax runs (no splitters)

(2) PoE-over-coax converter pairs (one TX/RX pair per camera)

→ Example: https://a.co/d/1hrupXT

(3) UniFi UNVR Instant Kit (comes with 4 cameras + built-in PoE switch):

Add 2 additional UniFi 4K cameras (total of 6 cameras)

**WHAT I’M TRYING TO CONFIRM:**

	1.	Will PoE-over-coax reliably support UniFi Protect cameras, including 2× 4K?

	2.	Any known issues with bandwidth (10/100 Mbps), latency, or dropped frames over longer coax runs?

	3.	Power concerns — are PoE+ cameras stable over coax at distance?

	4.	Anything I should avoid (specific camera models, IR-heavy units, etc.)?

**I understand:**

	•	This is point-to-point only

	•	No splitters or amplifiers

	•	I may need to lower FPS/bitrate on the 4K cameras if runs are long

Looking for real-world experience — especially from anyone who’s done UniFi + PoE-over-coax in a retrofit scenario.

Thanks in advance!
