Router Going Down Multiple Times A Day. Is It Time For A Replacement?
Hello there, everyone.
A few years back I had purchased a TP-LINK Archer GX90 router and it has served me well. We have been using ISP cable to modem to router. Only my PC is ethernet connected.
Last year our old ISP (Koodo) started giving us issues with their services, mainly intermittent connectivity. Bad batch modem, it seems, and they sent us a new modem. Even with these new modems, our router wasn't the same.
So, we reverted back to our first ISP (Teksavvy) and the modem gets solid connection, but the router loses signal every 2-12 hours. It comes back up in about two minutes or less each time, but there isn't any consistency.
I have tried switching ethernet cords, making sure the power adapter matches the router's requirements, factory reset, and firmware updates. The one thing that helped was changing the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, but that only extended the time between router drops.
I'm not sure what is and isn't relates to the outages.
Is my router cooked? Is it now time to invest in a replacement? I quite liked my gaming router. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.
