ONE PRO IMPRESSIONS - Still not great
Grabbed the ONE PRO L - 72 IPD with eye add on for 6 DOF.
I am a former nREAL owner, been following wearable display tech since the Avegant Glyph kickstarter back in 2015. I own multiple display headsets, VR headsets and most recently the Apple Vision Pro.
Ill keep this as short as possible, really disappointing product overall for the price.
Uncomfortable, hot, terrible carrying case, high price point and additional purchase of eye required for 6 DOF.
The rear of the arms uncomfortably applies pressure right behind my ears.
In Anchor mode, the screen always seems slightly angled, no matter what I do.
The 3D is really bad. I know some of you are impressed, which is probably due more to the fact that you dont have another wearable that does actual 3D. I was really excited for this feature and it is really not great; I think some people on this sub need their eyes checked.
The menu is annoying to navigate - but an in headset menu always will be. I dont hold it against this.
The pin cushion effect in combination with default settings is a terrible, close image, which is not comfortable on initial wear and boot up. 171 at 3 is stupid. Much better with reducing screen size or increasing distance. Out of the box, terrible tuning.
The image quality ranged from solid to great, with movies being very solid and videogames being a mixed bag. Steam deck games had a wide variety of visual struggles depending on title; when blown up to that size they become much more pronounced.
For the price, I cant recommend these. They are a high price for a lot of compromise and undercooked features.
I think we need a revision on comfort first, an increase in resolution, a revised case with compartment for cable (like the nREAL case). 120hz is great, the weight is okay but a little heavy and the optics are nice.
I also cannot recommend the apple vision pro to anyone for similar reasons (comfort, weight, price to features) - but its sole upside is the insane visual fidelity and 3D, absolutely unparalleled but in a way too heavy headset, something which the xReals lack (but at 1/5th price).
I really like xReal and what they are trying to do, hope they get closer with future releases. I think wearable XR / AR glasses are the future and in comparison to competitors, they put features on their headset - so xREAL is where Ill continue to watch.
This is emerging tech - and impressive in that way, I just think we are 1/2 generations away from the true game changers.
