Hi, I’m Sawyer. I am a 26 year-old male who tried to do the nomad life with my 5 year old pitty Gracie this summer and unfortunately, it did not end well.

We began our summer in Steamboat Springs, Colorado because I knew it was very nomad friendly and I knew I could set up a tent close by the town out there and still make money while keeping my dog close by. But then.. half the state of Colorado was on fire and steamboat had smoke and ash at ground level so I made the decision to evacuate since we didn’t have any real and true shelter.

We then ended up in Flagstaff Arizona, where I was camping and working for a mobile RV repair guy until he recommended me to a gentleman who was remodeling a three-story barn.

I began working for the other gentleman while I was still camping, but my camp washed away in a flash flood one night so he decided to give me shelter within the barn where I was working. This was amazing to start because I had a place to sleep, do laundry, let my dog roam and stay out of the elements.

Unfortunately, about two months in I woke up and got ready for work and then the boss man said I was going to have to work at his house for the day and keep Gracie in the car all day… it was 80° outside. I did not immediately tell him no, but I did say I would rather work at the barn so that I wouldn’t have to take so much time to tend to Gracie and that I could focus up and get more done. Prior to me telling him an actual no, he began screaming at me and telling me he was so fed up with the whole situation and taking care of me and the other two gentleman he had taken in and he told me to hit the road(we never asked for any help, just work).

At this point in time I did not have valid insurance so I was not able to do Uber or any gig work so I went to Tucson and ended up camping there and living off of food banks. While I was trying to find work within that search, I found a gentleman who needed help on a homestead in North Carolina, so I used the last little bit of money I had to travel out there and within three days he kicked me out due to my religious beliefs which I had already made clear to him prior to coming, and he said he had no issue with them.

After that, I had to tuck my tail and go back to Texas where I could at least sleep behind my dad’s shop.(My family does not support me, they’d rather me not sleep here but they know I’ll probably die if I don’t). From there, I was able to do Uber for about a month after getting insured and then my ID needed to be renewed, but I didn’t have a valid physical copy until a few more weeks. I did not have an address to use so I panicked and sent it to my childhood home and then within the time it was being mailed I had some family in East Texas offered to give me a place to stay. I was out there for a month and then one day the husband got upset about me trying to preserve the little bit of water I can pour for my dog before leaving for work every day and he started screaming at me acting as if he didn’t want to take care of her in the first place because I was leaving her with him while I was trying to get my feet under me. I did not accept any of that because it felt like he was just using any reason he could to push me away so I left and came back to my dad‘s shop.

I’ve now been here for about a month and I was able to at least sustain off of donating plasma in the beginning, but I had a reaction in the chair the other day so I’m still waiting to see the doctor to be able to donate again. I also have another license on the way(childhood home sent the first one back) within the coming weeks but the big issue right now is my phone bill is due today and it is $125 because I pay the phone off and I pay for insurance and if I cannot pay that today, I’m really going to be in a hole and probably on the streets within a month. I don’t really have resources to spread the GoFundMe so I came here, any donations are greatly appreciated. I know that it is formatted in a way that shows we are looking for more than just my phone bill but if somebody could at least help with my phone bill today, I would be so grateful.

My dog and I have food, for now. I just really need help keeping my phone on so I can start doing gig work when this new license comes in. I hope everyone’s doing well:)

We need help finding a home.
